No one should lose sleep because of debt

The stress of debt doesn’t switch off when the lights go out.

Trigger warning: includes the topic of suicide

When debt keeps you awake at night, it can feel like you’re carrying the weight of the world alone on your shoulders.

Across the UK, thousands of people are lying awake worrying about bills, letters and phone calls they just cannot face.

In our 2025 client report*, we found that because of debt:

89%
of clients lost sleep
Broken heart icon
85%
of clients felt isolated
49%
of clients had considered suicide as a way out of debt

When nights like this stretch into weeks and months, the pressure of debt can become overwhelming. What starts as worry and sleepless nights can spiral into isolation, fear and despair. For some people, the weight of debt becomes so heavy that they begin to believe there is no way out.

Your gift today could be a lifeline to someone whose debts have pushed them to their limits.

Stevie’s story

How Stevie found the lifeline he needed

After paying my rent and bills, I just didn’t have enough left to survive on. My finances were spinning out of control.

I made a decision to end my life, and I very nearly went through with it. I honestly thought that was the only way to be free from debt. I thank God that some kind people from my community stepped in and led me to the help I needed.

When Simon came to my home to talk about the debt help they offer in partnership with CAP, that was the moment the darkness started to lift for me.

It was the biggest relief being able to pay off the debts a bit more each month. And then, at the end of last year, I became debt free!

I still think about how different it might have been, if people like Simon hadn’t been there when I was at my lowest.

It’s because of you, and supporters like you, that I’m still here. Will you give a lifeline for someone else who has lost hope today?
