Restoring the Balance: Tackling problem debt

Today the plight of people in debt and poverty has been brought to the attention of policy makers in the House of Lords.

Working together with the Centre for Social Justice, CAP is pleased to have inputted into a major two-year investigation into UK poverty that aims to influence the key decision makers of our country.

The project features several areas, including unmanageable debt, with recommendations expected to be included in the manifestos of political parties for the upcoming General Election.

Under the area of unmanageable debt, CAP’s statistics form a vital picture of what this looks like for some of the poorest and most vulnerable in society. Our case studies also bring to life the day-to-day struggles face by our clients.

Our new CAP Sunday resources

We are really excited that our 2014 CAP Sunday resources have just arrived back from the printers!

This year we are on a mission to break the silence caused by debt. Over a third of our clients tell us that they suffered in silence thinking suicide was the only way out of their debts. CAP Sunday will be a day when we speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, to reach more desperate people and tell them there is a solution!

Hundreds of churches will be taking part in CAP Sunday by showing our new film. If you'd like to join them and us in breaking the silence, then order your CAP Sunday pack today by clicking here.

CAP shortlisted by Charity Times Awards…twice!

We are really pleased to have recently received news from Charity Times Awards that Christians Against Poverty has been shortlisted to receive two awards!

The first award we are shortlisted for is ‘Charity of the Year: with an income of £5million - £10million’. This is in recognition of our efforts to expand our debt help service, which now reaches over 260 local communities across the UK, and for the launch of our new initiative CAP Job Clubs (now with over 90 clubs). It also acknowledges our continued efforts to make all our processes as efficient as possible helping us to deliver the best service to those with the very least.

The second award we are shortlisted to receive is ‘Fundraising Team of Year’, in response to our campaign sponsoring Big Church Day Out last year. Through this campaign 1,000 people become Life Changers through our regular giving programme. It was already a huge encouragement to see so many people committed to support our work to break the burden of debt and poverty, so to have the fundraising campaign acknowledged is simply an added bonus!

The winners will be announced on Wednesday 22 October 2014 so watch this space…
