CAP scoops two major awards in two days!

It's been a whopper of a week at Christians Against Poverty! We've not bagged just one award – we've got two!

Our committed work to encourage best practice within the credit industry gained us first place in the category 'Contribution to the Credit Industry' in the Credit Excellence Awards 2013, in association with Wescot. Our work to build relationships and offer advice to creditors has seen some companies set up special vulnerable client units, and one even had staff trained by the Samaritans to help them recognise suicidal people.

Just two days later, our insolvency department were celebrating as they were awarded the title 'Insolvency Team of the Year' at the Insolvency and Rescue Awards 2013. Every member of our insolvency team have studied to become a Debt Relief Order Approved Intermediary in the UK and NI. Their hard work ensures that we can free those who would otherwise be left with a 'life sentence' of debt.

Four out of five use payday loans for food

Four out of five use payday loans for food

This week, we called for tighter regulation to protect vulnerable people from rogue payday lenders. Why? Because shocking new findings from our latest survey of those being helped by CAP show that four out of five people taking out a payday loan did so to afford food.

Our research was picked up by the media and published across the UK on a national and local level. We featured in The Independent, Guardian, Daily Mail, Yorkshire Post, Church Times and more. We were also featured on BBC Radio 4 and Premier Radio.

For links to these articles, hop over to our Press page, where you'll also find full press releases, including our response to the FCA's announcement about planned legislation on the payday lender industry.
