How Stevie found the lifeline he needed

After paying my rent and bills, I just didn’t have enough left to survive on. I’d be trying to make ten pounds last a fortnight until pay day, but it wouldn’t even cover my food, and I didn’t know who to talk to. My finances were spinning out of control.

I made a decision to end my life, and I very nearly went through with it. I honestly thought that was the only way to be free from debt. I thank God that some kind people from my community stepped in and led me to the help I needed.

When Simon came to my home to talk about the debt help they offer in partnership with CAP, that was the moment the darkness started to lift for me.

It was the biggest relief being able to pay off the debts a bit more each month. And then, at the end of last year, I became debt free!

Now I’ve not only become confident at sticking to a budget, but been able to restore my mental health and rebuild my life. I came back to faith after Simon invited me to a church group and I then decided to get baptised. I’ve found a new family and a new life!

I can say with total certainty that no one deserves to lose their life over debt, no matter the amount.

I still think about how different it might have been, if people like Simon hadn’t been there when I was at my lowest.
