Will you become a Life Changer today?

UK poverty is a cruel thief. It breaks into people’s lives and takes without warning, stealing hope and leaving behind despair. But there is a solution.

We walk alongside those caught up in financial storms. Our local workers meet people face-to-face and offer not only support to overcome money worries, but also holistic, in-depth care.

I was scared of the postman. I just gave up in the end. I went into a deep depression and at one point I wouldn’t open my curtains.

Continuing the story: long-term support for Paul, Sam and family

Last Christmas is the one where I never want to experience ever again. Paul was having to work more and more for what was generating less and less. The debt just got worse and worse and worse. My body broke down. I had a stroke.

From the very first visit with CAP Jonathan reassured us so quickly that it was manageable. He prayed with us which meant so much, actually, in that moment. We give him a big pile of debts that we thought, Oh, it’s horrible and we’ll never get past it.’ And Jonathan’s looking through them like, Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep.’ The money side were great, but it was the personal touch that he had in it.

You’re seeing the, the gospel in action and you’re on the receiving end of that love and care. That impacts you in a way that’s quite hard to describe, actually. We just looked at each other and cried and said, Yeah, this is the point where we know.’ There’s a future here.’ Now we’re actually debt free. Family life has grown strength to strength. We’ve learned lessons financially, in the way that we run our home and the way that we budget is completely different to before.

We’ve got pots for Christmas, we’ve got pots for this and that and Sam saves pots for everything — so we’ve actually got savings, and that’s a novelty for us.

There’s a lightness again now, and we just feel like a, a family and a and a couple again.

Paul and Sam recently received CAP’s help at Christmas. Through long-term support, they were able to not only escape financial crisis but also rebuild stability and security for their family

Your monthly gift equips people to engage with our resources, tools and courses to journey back to freedom and community, leaving behind the burden of overwhelming debt and despair. We have seen clients rise from depression, anxiety, and the pressure and hopelessness of overwhelming bills because they took the courageous step to seek help from CAP and our incredible Life Changer community.

It’s a joy to be able to give, and to be part of something bigger.
