Read these Bible scriptures about giving thanks to bless you today.

Gratitude is a major theme in the Bible. From the Psalms of thanksgiving to New Testament letters, scripture calls us to give thanks for what we have and look to God with thankful hearts. Practising gratitude not only honours God, but also boosts our joy and improves our mental health.

I pray that these thankful scriptures from the Bible bless you today.

Bible verses about giving thanks to God for his goodness

At the very heart of thanksgiving is the recognition of God’s goodness. Scripture reminds us that every blessing comes from him. When we take the time to reflect on God’s kindness and love, gratitude naturally flows from us. These verses can remind you about God’s character and remember his unchanging goodness.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Psalm 107:1

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

Psalm 100:4

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3:17

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

James 1:17

Bible verses about giving thanks in all circumstances

It’s easy to be thankful when life is going well, but the Bible calls us to go even deeper and to give thanks when life is also difficult. This doesn’t mean that God is trying to diminish our problems, but instead reminding us to trust that he’s still with us and working for our good.

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Philippians 4:6

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28

Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 5:20

I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.

Bible verses about being thankful for nature

Being thankful for nature helps to point us back to our creator. All around us, whether it’s our local park, plants in our windows or local wildlife that we see, the natural world is filled with so many reminders of God’s love for the world. Being thankful for nature not only helps us appreciate God’s work more, but also reminds us to slow down, pause and find rest in him too.

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Psalm 19:1

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen.

Romans 1:20

Praise the Lord from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding, you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars.

Psalm 148:7–9

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.

Genesis 1:31

But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.

Job 12:7–10

Bible verses about thanking God in prayer and worship

Prayer and worship are two powerful ways we can express our thankfulness to God. Throughout the Bible, we see God’s people lifting their voices in thanksgiving, not just for what he’s done, but also for who he is. Expressing gratitude to God helps our prayers turn from lists of requests to praise.

Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.

Psalm 95:2

He Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.

Psalm 28:7

Nehemiah 12:46

I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.

Psalm 69:30

Bible verses about being thankful for everlasting life

When we remember the cross, we’re reminded that thanksgiving is not just about the daily things we receive from God, but the eternal hope we have in him. These verses about thankfulness can help you remember God’s grace, his victory over death and the new life we’ve been freely given.

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:57

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.

Living a life of gratitude

As the Bible shows us, giving thanks is something we’re called to do in every season, whether life feels good or uncertain. When we choose to pause and recognise God’s goodness, through nature, in prayer, in difficult times or through the gift of salvation, we shift our focus from what’s missing to what God has already done.
