Get started with opening a CAP service

Take a look around our website to understand more and hear the experience of churches that run CAP services. When you’re ready to find out more, our team is on hand to chat and answer any questions you and your church might have. This is a no commitment conversation, just a chance to get to know you and understand how we can help.

Once you’ve settled on the right option for your community, we’ll help you to identify the right people to pioneer your CAP ministry and walk you through the practical partnership process. We can also provide advice and guidance on some of the common hurdles that churches encounter when getting a new project off the ground, such as funding and promotion.

The final step is training and inspiring your team to deliver practical, life-transforming services in your local community, hand-in-hand with sharing the love and hope of Jesus. You’ll be set up on our systems, equipped with professional resources, and connected with those at CAP who will continue to support you and your church throughout your time with us.

Case Study — Church Leader Simon Benham from Kenrith Community Church in Bracknell talks about the changes at his church.

Church Leader Simon Benham: In the last nine years that our centre’s been running we’ve been able to help somewhere between eight and 900 families in our local community who are struggling with debt.

Been amazing, the inroads that’s given us, not just with individuals, but also the reputation that we’ve been able to build up with local agencies we work with, with the council, with other people in our local area.

For us as a church, it’s been one of the best things that we’ve ever done. If you’re thinking about it, I want to encourage you to look at it in detail and really consider going for it.

Every CAP ministry is run in partnership with a local church as we’re passionate about seeing lives truly transformed through the power of practical support and the good news of the gospel hand-in-hand.

  • We equip you and your church with professional tools, training and resources, enabling you to provide effective, expert support to those trapped in debt and poverty in your community.
  • We handle the financial, legal and practical details, allowing you to concentrate on what churches do best: providing emotional, relational and spiritual in-person support that truly transforms lives.
  • Gain access to our bespoke, industry-leading systems, tools and experts.
  • Draw on the experience and knowledge of a network of over one thousand churches across the UK.

Q&A

CAP provides all of the training that your church members need to deliver an excellent, professional service in your community. No existing expertise is needed, just a heart to serve those in need and a passion for sharing the good news of Jesus.

Initial training typically takes place online, with self-led, flexible elements and some live content. Once your service is up and running, we’ll continue to support your team with ongoing development opportunities, from new resources, to webinars, conferences and more.

We exist to equip and empower churches, like your own. We provide all of the tools, training, resources and support you need to deliver a brilliant service. This includes:

  • Initial training and ongoing development opportunities.
  • All the materials needed to deliver your service, from guides and booklets, to customisable promotional flyers, posters and banners.
  • Ongoing support from our CAP team, including prayer, reviews and regular visits.
  • Access to CAP’s secure IT systems.
  • The opportunity to join other churches in your area at CAP conferences and regional days.

Our services vary in the resource required to deliver them effectively and more information can be found on here. But regardless of the size, style, or location of your church, there’s an option for you. The key things needed are:

  • A financial contribution towards the cost of your partnership.
Whilst we try to cover the bulk of this ourselves, we ask that your church provides a contribution to support the cost of our ongoing training, resourcing and support.
  • Passionate people!
Those in your church delivering your CAP service will need to complete some online training and give their time regularly to enable your ministry to flourish. We will also be there every step of the way to support them.
  • Ongoing support.
Our partnerships work best when they involve your whole church. Everyone has a part to play, whether it’s pastoral support, praying for your ministry, or offering practical help. It’s vital that your trained team feel equipped, encouraged and inspired as they step out into your community.

Yes! We love to see churches coming together to collectively share the hope of Jesus and meet practical needs in their community. This can also be a great option if you want to share in the resource requirements of providing a CAP service, whether that’s people, finance or buildings.

Some churches choose to set up a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) with shared governance and responsibility, in order to facilitate a more official collaborative relationship. If this was something you wanted to pursue, we can provide expert guidance and template legal documentation to help make the process as smooth and simple as possible.

We don’t want finance to be a barrier to any church who has a passion to see the lives of those in debt and poverty transformed in their community. If you’re concerned that the cost of partnering could be a challenge for your church, please do get in touch as we can support you with advice and guidance on fundraising methods and opportunities.
