CAP responds to the Department for Communities Fuel Poverty Strategy

white energy meter
CAP’s response to the Department for Communities Fuel Poverty Strategy for Northern Ireland.

CAP welcomes this long overdue strategy. We welcome the vision of a warm, healthy home for everyone’ which sets out so concisely what CAP wants to see for everyone in Northern Ireland. We know that a warm home is so important in so many ways, impacting physical and mental health and wellbeing, child development and education.

CAP welcomes the commitment to collaboration and the participation of people with lived experience of fuel poverty issues as these are vital to the success of the strategy.

CAP is, however, disappointed that, at times, the strategy lacks hard objectives with measurable outcomes. There is an over-emphasis on exploring, researching and insight gathering in areas where we feel sufficient evidence is available and where action would be more welcome than further research.
