Millions of people in the UK are currently trapped in poverty. CAP’s vision is to see an end to UK poverty.
To understand the steps needed to end poverty in the UK, CAP examines the issue through the lens of the ‘drivers of poverty’. These drivers are the underlying factors that increase the risk of individuals being pulled into, and trapped in, poverty. They shape both the causes and the consequences of financial hardship, often forcing people into impossible choices and limiting their ability to achieve long-term financial security.
The categories:
- Level & design of public services
- Psycho-social & health
- High costs of essentials & material deprivation
- Pay, skills & progression
- Systemic inequality
- Financial resilience
- Relational resilience/support
Each of these categories contributes to the challenge of poverty, both in isolation and through their combined impact, shaped by a mix of societal and personal factors that influence an individual’s financial circumstances.
