Father’s Day prayers:

Father’s Day prayer for my dad

God, thank you for my dad. Thank you for his presence, his guidance and his love for me. I pray you’ll bless him with happiness and a deep sense of your love and presence. I pray that he’ll know how much he means to me and how thankful I am for him. Amen

Father’s Day prayer for my husband

God, thank you for the man I share this life with. Thank you for his dedication, patience and love for our children. Please pour your blessings on him today and let the Holy Spirit be with him. I pray that you’ll strengthen his spirit and know how much he is loved by us and by you. Amen.

Father’s Day prayer for my son

Lord, thank you for the journey my son is on as a father himself. Give him wisdom, tenderness, patience, kindness and strength as he raises his children. Let him feel proud of the dad he is, and encourage him to lean on you in every challenge and celebrate every joy with you. Amen.

A prayer for Dad in heaven

Loving Father, today I remember my dad who is now with you and in your care. Thank you for the time we shared and the love he gave me. Although I miss him deeply, I know that he is safe with you. I ask that you bring me comfort today and help me with my continued grief. Bring my family peace today and please be with us. Amen.

Prayer for fatherhood

Heavenly Father, thank you for fathers. Grant them strength, wisdom, patience, and your love as they guide their children. Help them be present, loving role models. Comfort those who long to be fathers, heal broken relationships and bring peace to those who grieve. May all fatherhood reflect your perfect love. Amen.

A blessing for fathers

May the Lord bless all fathers with strength that doesn’t falter, wisdom that guides with love and a heart that is patient and is slow to anger. We pray that they’ll be blessed with the fruits of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. May God’s love fill their hearts today. Amen.

Short prayer for my dad

Dear God, thank you for my dad. Bless him today and always. Let him feel loved, valued and surrounded by your grace. Amen.

Prayer about God as a father

Father, you are a perfect parent. When I stray, you guide me back, when I’m brokenhearted, you comfort me and draw me close into your loving arms. When human love fails, your love always endures. Teach me to trust you, to draw nearer to you, and to rest in knowing that you’re with me and love me. Amen.

Opening prayer for a Father’s Day service

Heavenly Father, as we gather together today, we thank you for the gift of fathers – for those here today, those we remember and for you as our Father. Bless this service with your presence this morning, and let your Holy Spirit be with us as we lift each other up and worship you. We pray that we can honour you today and remember you as our loving father. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayers for those who find Father’s Day difficult

For myself

Father God, while others are celebrating, I carry a different weight today. You see my pain and know what I’m feeling before I even have to say it, and you understand. I ask that you’ll be with me today and hold the pieces together in my heart that feel broken. Please remind me that your love is steadfast throughout the pain. Amen.

For others

Father God, for many, today is joyful, but for others, it brings pain, grief or loneliness. We lift up those who are missing their dads, those who never knew their fathers, those who carry pain from difficult relationships and those longing to be dads. Please meet each person at their unique place of struggle or sorrow today. Comfort them and give them peace, reminding them that above all, you are their father who loves them. Amen.
