Reflections for Holy Week, 14–20 April

This Holy Week, let’s remember Jesus’ final days before his crucifixion and rejoice in his resurrection.

We’re going to take you through each day of this final week of Lent, with a short reflection to focus on the Easter story, and a prompt to guide your prayers.

On Monday, we remember the day Jesus rebelled against the people selling in the temple. Pray that as people who want to see an end to poverty, we would boldly call out injustice as we see it and refuse to turn a blind eye.

On Tuesday, we remember Jesus’ time at the Mount of Olives, when he warns the disciples that they will face persecution for being associated with him. Pray that God would uphold and guard you with the Holy Spirit if ever you face resistance or negativity as a Christian.

On Wednesday, we remember Jesus visiting the house of Simon the Leper, where he is approached by a woman with a jar of expensive perfume. She proceeds to break the jar and pour it over Jesus in an act of worship. May your words be like that perfume today, pouring out praise for the one who has saved you.

On Thursday, often called Maundy Thursday, we remember the Last Supper. At their last meal together, Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, a practical demonstration of his sacrificial and servant-hearted leadership. Let’s pray for humility and servant-heartedness in ourselves and our leaders.

On Good Friday, we remember Jesus’ death on the cross. Take time today to be thankful for all that he was willing to endure for our freedom and salvation. Pray for those who don’t yet know Jesus, that they would come to know what his extraordinary sacrifice meant for each of us.

On Saturday, it’s a good day to pause and reflect. Take some time today to be still. This could be in church, out for a walk in nature, or at home with your Bible. Reflect on God’s sacrifice through the crucifixion, what it meant for humanity, and what it means for you personally.

On Easter Sunday, we celebrate! Christ is risen! He is risen indeed, alleluia! May the sound of our praise and adoration be loud in Heaven today.
