Praying for the UK during the elections on Thursday 7 May
On Thursday 7 May, elections are taking place across England, Scotland and Wales. These elections will determine where a lot of local and national funding will be allocated.
It’s really important that, as millions of people across the UK vote on 7 May, we’re praying that God guides our votes and puts the right people in positions of authority for this time. Let’s pray that those elected would be moved to keep poverty high on the agenda.
Here are some pre-written prayers to guide you as you speak to God about the upcoming elections.
A prayer to say before voting
Lord, please guide my mind and heart as I prepare to vote on 7 May. May my ears be eager to hear the voices of those in debt and poverty, may my heart stay open to people’s needs and may my actions be part of bringing your kingdom to earth. May your will be done. Amen.
A prayer for putting poverty on the agenda
Lord, I pray for peaceful and democratic elections in England, Scotland and Wales. Please put poverty on the hearts of every elected candidate, so they make decisions that help create a society where everyone can thrive. Amen.
A prayer for peace across the UK
Lord, as people cast their votes at elections in England, Scotland and Wales, I pray that you’d bring peace and unity across the UK. Remind us of the things that unite us, like love and compassion, despite political differences. Calm our anxious hearts and help us to put our trust in you, as one Church, knowing that you work all things for good. Amen.
