If you’re looking for free debt help from a friendly team who are here to support you, then you’ve come to the right place. Christians Against Poverty (CAP) has been providing free debt help in the UK since 1996. We help thousands of people get out of debt every year, equipping them with the tools and confidence to face any storms that may come their way in the future.

Our free debt help service is face-to-face* and run through local churches, so you get practical help and a supportive community around you through whatever challenges you’re facing. We’ll help you find the best route out of debt, and walk with you every step of the way.

Churches also partner with CAP to run local community groups that tackle poverty at the root. These include Job Clubs, and Life Skills.

*We’re keeping an eye on Government guidelines around the pandemic and constantly adapting our services as necessary. The safety of our clients, staff and volunteers is always our top priority.

Journey out of debt

Here’s what to expect when you work with us to become debt free. We’ll be here to help you every step of the way.

  1. Give us a call

    Use the postcode search box above to see if there is a CAP Debt Centre near you. If there is, call us for free on 0800 328 0006 and our friendly New Enquiries team will book in your first appointment with your local Debt Coach.

    (If there isn’t a CAP Debt Centre in your area, don’t worry. There may be some other options available to you.)

  2. First appointment

    Your local Debt Coach will introduce themselves and let you know what to expect from CAP’s free debt help service.

  3. Second appointment

    Your Debt Coach will collect and send all your paperwork off to head office*. Our expert Debt Advisors will create a tailor-made budget for you, and explain your options for getting out of debt. We’ll also contact your priority creditors to let them know we’re working with you.

  4. Third appointment

    Your Debt Coach will talk you through all the suitable and recommended options to become debt free, based on your individual circumstances. You can choose the one that works best for you.

  5. Your route out of debt

    You’ll get started on whichever route out of debt you choose, whether that’s repayment or a form of insolvency. We’ll continue to support you however long it takes, even if your financial situation changes.

  6. Debt free!

    We’ll get ready to celebrate with you as you become debt free!

  7. *Currently, clients are able to send their paperwork digitally. This will all be explained to you so it’s as simple as possible.
