CAP’s Chief Executive Officer, Stewart McCulloch, said: “All brothers and sisters in Christ will be deeply saddened by the passing of Pope Francis. He was a tireless and prophetic voice for those experiencing poverty, constantly challenging the indifference and economic structures that harm the vulnerable.
“I was in Manila in 2015 working on the recovery from Typhoon Haiyan when the Pope visited the Philippines. It was an unforgettable experience and I recall his deep empathy for all of those most affected by the disaster.
“Pope Francis’ profound emphasis on mercy, justice, and caring for his fellows always resonated deeply with CAP’s mission to see poverty ended. His unwavering focus on the marginalised inspired millions across the world, and his compassionate legacy will undoubtedly endure. Our thoughts are with the Catholic community globally.”
