CAP’s Chief Executive Officer, Stewart McCulloch, said:
“We welcome the publication of the Government’s Child Poverty Strategy, with the news that 550,000 children could be lifted out of poverty by 2030; however, even with this positive news, based on current projections, this will not be enough to lift all families out of financial difficulty with millions of children will still be growing up in poverty.
“This represents a vital step towards our mission of seeing an end to UK poverty. We appreciate the Government’s recognition of the immense challenges people currently face, particularly through the decision to remove the two-child limit.
“However, we must ensure our focus is not limited to children alone. Poverty affects entire households, and children cannot thrive if their parents are trapped in severe deprivation. To achieve a society where people are truly free from poverty, we need continued commitment and resources that address all of the drivers and impacts of poverty.”
“In the meantime, CAP remains dedicated to supporting those who are struggling right now. We will continue to feed the reality of our clients’ experiences back to decision-makers to help ensure these steps turn into a lasting solution for all.”
