This year is the 10th anniversary of the night Pete (that’s my previous name) ‘died’ to his old ways. When God intervened to rescue and save me. He reached down, took me by the hand and pulled me from the miry pit of despair, and the drug and alcohol-induced coma I’d got myself into.
He wasn’t prepared to let me go. He had greater plans, and a lot more for me to do. I didn’t realise it at the time, but this was the start of my salvation and 180° transformation.
I repented for my sins (acknowledged my wrongdoing, and turned away from these things) and accepted Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I was ‘born again’ and changed my name to Simon, and later got baptised. Praise God!
Here I am ten years on, a sinner saved by the amazing grace of God. Freed from the chains of debt and shame. Released from the clutches of the devil and the vices of this world. Justified and made righteous with the blood of Christ.
A prayer for ten years
Here’s my prayer of gratitude to God for the incredible things he’s done in my life over the last decade:
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for loving me so much that you wouldn’t let me go, and that you saved, delivered and transformed me into sonship and an inheritance of eternal life with you. I know you care about every person struggling with hopelessness and despair, who may be turning to substances to cope. Thank you that you love them too, and that you promise to rescue and redeem.
I pray for your strength and courage to continue to grow in my dedication and obedient walk with Jesus. I also pray you’d continue to transform the lives of every single person that has experienced your love and grace through their local church, just like I did.
I ask this in your mighty name.
Amen.
