At Christians Against Poverty, our focus is always on the individuals and families across the UK who are navigating the heavy burden of debt and financial hardship. We know that for the people we serve, what matters most is the stability and support they need to keep their heads above water and look forward to a brighter future.

While a change in leadership is a significant moment, our work doesn’t stop. We have a long history of working constructively with many different administrations, and we will work with the next Prime Minister, whoever they may be, and their team to ensure that tackling poverty is at the top of their agenda.

In local communities across the country we see the challenges facing those on the lowest incomes, and we know that they need long-term, evidence-based solutions to these. Our latest research shows that for many, even with careful budgeting, income simply does not cover the cost of basic essentials. So, we will continue to advocate for adequate income from wages and an Essentials Guarantee’ within the social security system, ensuring that everyone has enough to cover life’s necessities, such as food and energy.

We also look forward to discussing how the next government can improve debt collection practices, particularly regarding the need for regulation of the enforcement sector. Our priority is to help the Government to develop policies that provide fair, compassionate, and effective routes out of debt and poverty.

Regardless of the political landscape, CAP remains committed to providing free, expert debt advice through our work with our incredible local church partners. We will continue to offer our insights from our frontline work and evidence-based solutions around poverty to the next Prime Minister, working together to create a UK where no one is held back by the weight of poverty.”
