The rollercoaster of April - will Government support be enough?

Policy and Public Affairs Manager

CAP’s Policy and Public Affairs Manager, Juliette Flach, It’s hard to miss seeing the rising costs of essentials, but for the people we help at CAP, who are facing the most challenging circumstances, the current and potential future hikes in the cost of food and energy are absolutely terrifying.

The families and individuals we support often are facing additional challenges on top of their financial struggles, such as domestic abuse, a health crisis, bereavement or a job loss.

UK adults already report having debt (excluding student loans or mortgage) that they are struggling to repay*

We welcome the Government’s latest cost of living measures which will go some way to helping those most in need but unfortunately with costs likely to rise again, we have serious concerns about the difficulties people living in poverty in our communities will face.

This is why we feel it’s vital to highlight free debt advice and the range of other free community based support that is available and call on the Government to deepen their commitment to helping those facing the most vulnerable circumstances through this difficult period.”
