Pray with us
Poverty in the UK
Up to 14.5 million people were living in poverty in the UK before the pandemic even started (Joseph Rowntree Foundation). As living costs soar, it’s estimated that the number of those experiencing absolute poverty will increase by a further 1.3 million in 2022/2023 (Resolution Foundation).
Here at Christians Against Poverty, we get to know the real people behind these statistics. People who can’t afford basic necessities like a cooker, a bed or even something as essential as food for their families.
Our Debt Help service and community groups, based in hundreds of churches across the country, are working hard to meet the needs of as many people as possible. But it’s a growing challenge.
Why we pray for UK poverty
We believe that God hears and answers our prayers. We believe that prayer and action go hand in hand. We believe that, through prayer, God makes us sensitive to the needs of those around us, builds empathy and brings us together to act.
‘This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.’
1 John 5:14Will you pray with us?
