CAP response to NI draft Programme for Government

Parliament Buildings Belfast

CAP has lodged a response to the NI Executive’s draft Programme for Government (PfG). While generally welcoming the PfG and the commitments it includes, CAP does have some concerns about:

  • The lack of specific measurable outcomes in the PfG.

  • The lack of a specific mention of or commitment to an Anti-Poverty Strategy.

  • The lack of a specific mention of, or commitment to, welfare reform mitigation measures.

Given the wide-ranging and detrimental impacts of living in poverty which we see daily in our clients’ lives – affecting people’s health, well being, happiness, relationships and family life – we believe that tackling poverty should be a standalone priority within the PfG.
