Planning a day out as a family can feel expensive, especially during the school holidays.
But, if you’re on Universal Credit or other benefits, there are plenty of discounted days out across the UK, with some tickets costing as low as £1.
We’ve rounded up some of the best places to visit, broken down by region, to help you make the most of 2026 without stretching your budget.

Each attraction may have its own terms and conditions, including the type of proof you need to bring and whether you need to book in advance. We recommend that you check each attraction’s website linked below to get the most up-to-date information.
Cheap or discounted Universal Credit days out in 2026:
London and South East
London Zoo
- Discount: £10 adult tickets (usually £31.80) and £5 child tickets (usually £22.20).
- What you need to know: Reduced priced tickets are available for those currently receiving Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Income Support, income-based Employment and Support Allowance or income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance. Reduced price tickets are available for up to six people per household. Under 3s go free and do not need to book.

Buckingham Palace
- Discount: £1 tickets.
- What you need to know: You can claim £1 tickets for up to six people per household. Only one person per household needs to show supporting documents, and that person should be part of the visit. Under 5s tickets and access companion tickets are free.
- How to book: Tickets for Buckingham Palace must be booked in advance here.
Windsor Castle
- Discount: £1 tickets.
- What you need to know: You can claim £1 tickets for up to six people per household. Only one person per household needs to show supporting documents, and that person should be part of the visit. Your ticket includes a multimedia guide. St George’s Chapel is not open to visitors on Sunday, when it is only open for worship. Under 5s tickets and access companion tickets are free.

Battersea Arts Centre
- Discount: Pay what you can for shows and performances.
- What you need to know: If anyone feels they need to pay under the minimum price, they can contact BAC on [email protected] or call 0207 223 2223 to get a cheaper ticket.
- How to book: For ‘pay what you can’ events, select the performance date, choose how many tickets you want and use the dropdown to choose your desired ticket price. Alternatively, use the contact email or number above. Find out more.
The Cartoon Museum, London
- Discount: £5 Universal Credit adult tickets (usually £12).
- How to book: Book tickets for the Cartoon Museum in advance here, or get them on the day.
London Transport Museum
- Discount: £5 unlimited annual pass for adults (usually £27). Kids go free.
- What you need to know: The £5 tickets for adults are available to people on Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Employment and Support Allowance. You’ll need to show proof of benefit entitlement, either printed or on an electronic device.

Whipsnade Zoo, Bedfordshire
- Discount: £10 adult tickets (usually £29), £5 child tickets (usually £20.30).
- What you need to know: Discounts are available for those currently receiving Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Income Support, income-based Employment and Support Allowance, or income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance.
- How to book: Whipsnade Zoo tickets are only available to purchase online in advance here, for up to six people per household (all living at the same address). Under 3s go free and don’t need to book.
HMS Belfast, London
- Discount: £3 tickets (usually £26.80). Under 5s go free.
- What you need to know: Between April 2026 and March 2027, visitors in who are receiving Universal Credit and other named benefits can bring up to five adults or children from the same household for £3 each. You will need to provide proof of entitlement and ID when you visit.

Yorkshire and North East
Harewood House, Leeds
- Discount: Adults £3 (usually £20.50), children aged 4–17 years, £3 (usually £10).
- What you need to know: Access+ tickets include access to the house, gardens and grounds as well as the adventure playground, and are available for people receiving Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and Personal Independence Payment (PIP). A maximum of four people from the same household can benefit from this offer. Proof of eligibility is required.

York Castle Museum
- Discount: Free for those on means-tested benefits like Universal Credit, including children in the same household.
- What you need to know: Valid ID or other form of proof such as a bank statement, letter, or mobile app required. Find out more here.
- How to book: Pre-booking is not essential, but you may need to queue. Book York Castle Museum in advance here, selecting your date, time and clicking ‘view more ticket options’ to see the free concession option available for Universal Credit.
Yorkshire Museum, York
- Discount: Free adult admission for those on Universal Credit (usually £10).
- What you need to know: Valid ID or other form of proof such as bank statement, letter, or mobile app required.
- How to book: Book your tickets in advance online here.
National Railway Museum, York
- Discount: Free for everyone, with an optional donation.
- What you need to know: It’s recommended you book tickets online, particularly during busy periods, however walk-up tickets are also available.

Darlington Hippodrome
- Discount: 50% off per household on up to four tickets.
- What you need to know: Those who receive Universal Credit or Pension Credit can save 50% on tickets. You’ll need to sign up to their access scheme in advance.
- How to book: Fill out the form to sign up and someone will be in touch with you about booking options.
North West
Eureka! Science + Discovery, Merseyside
- Discount: £5 tickets per person (usually £16.95 for adults and children aged 3+, and £7.45 for children aged 1–2).
- What you need to know: If a member of your family receives Pension Credit, Universal Credit or is in the process of being moved onto the new benefit system, the whole family can visit Eureka! Science + Discovery for £5 per person. You must bring proof of benefit entitlement with you. Tickets are only valid for day admission and do not include an annual pass. They cannot be used at Eureka! The National Children’s Museum in Halifax, West Yorkshire.

RHS Garden Bridgewater, Manchester
- Discount: £1 tickets.
- What you need to know: Those on Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance are eligible. You can book £1 tickets for yourself and up to five people. This can be a mixture of children and adults. Only one person needs to be receiving benefits, and you will need to present proof of your benefit on arrival. Find out more.

Midlands
Chatsworth House, Derbyshire Dales
- Discount: Adults £3 (usually £35) Children aged 3–16 years are £1 (usually £12).
- What you need to know: Tickets include access to the house, garden, farmyard and adventure playground. Universal Credit tickets are available for households where at least one person is in receipt of one or more of the following: Universal Credit, Pension Credit. Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Carer’s Allowance, those in receipt of PIP or DLA. Find out more.

South West
Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, Bristol (Discount for May 2026)
- Discount: £10.00 adult and child tickets, under 2s free.
- What you need to know: This discount is available during May 2026 for households who receive Universal Credit. Available online only and must be booked in advance. Proof of eligibility and ID required on arrival.

Eden Project, Cornwall
- Discount: £15 for adults (usually £35.50) and £7.50 for children aged 5–15 (usually £12.50).
- What you need to know: The Eden Project offer is available for visitors receiving Universal Credit, Pension Credit or UK Legacy Benefits such as: Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Housing Benefit, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), Child Tax Credits (CTC), Working Tax Credits (WTC) and Income Support. An identifiable proof of the visitor as a recipient of any of the list above will be required on arrival.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Cornwall
- Discount: £5 adult tickets (usually £28.80) and £1 child tickets (usually £10). Under 5s free.
- What you need to know: Tickets can be purchased for visitors receiving Universal Credit and Pension Credit, in addition to up to five members of your household. You’ll need to bring proof of your benefit entitlement dated within twelve months of your visit.

The Tank Museum, Dorset
- Discount: £12.25 on-the-day adult tickets (usually £24.50) and £4.50 for children.
- What you need to know: Recipients of Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support or Jobseeker’s Allowance can receive reduced tickets. To be eligible you must have received a Universal Credit payment within the last month, and you will also be asked to show photo ID as well as your benefit entitlement.

- Discount: Adults £15.90 (usually £21.20), children aged 2–15 £10.80 (usually £14.50).
- What you need to know: Concessions include disabled people, over 65s, students, home educators and anyone receiving Universal Credit.

Scotland
Edinburgh Zoo
- Discount: Tickets cost as little as £8 with Under 3s free.
- What you need to know: Edinburgh reduced ticket prices for those currently on Universal Credit, income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), Housing Benefit, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Income Support. Find out more here.

Highland Wildlife Park
- Discount: £8.00 tickets for adults (usually £25.00) and £8.00 tickets for children (usually £18.70). Under 3s go free.
- What you need to know: Reduced ticket prices are available online for those currently on Universal Credit, income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), Housing Benefit, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Income Support. You can book up to six tickets per booking and all must be from the same household.

The King’s Gallery, Edinburgh (The Edwardians: Age of Elegance)
- Discount: £1 tickets.
- What you need to know: You can claim £1 tickets for up to six people per household. Only one person per household needs to show supporting documents, and that person should be part of the visit. Your ticket includes a multimedia guide in English.
- Under 5s tickets and access companion tickets are free.

Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh
- Discount: £1 tickets.
- What you need to know: You can claim £1 tickets for up to six people per household. Only one person per household needs to show supporting documents, and that person should be part of the visit. Your ticket includes a multimedia guide. Under 5s tickets and access companion tickets are free.
- How to book: Tickets for Palace of Holyroodhouse must be booked in advance here.
National Museum of Scotland
- Discount: Discounts are available for the Giants exhibition, running between Saturday 31 January to Monday 14 September. Adults £3 (usually £13), children ages 5–15 are free (usually £9).
- What you need to know: You can book up to a maximum of four Universal Credit Adult tickets and four Universal Credit Child tickets per order. Includes those who receive Universal Credit, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), Housing Benefit, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Income Support and Pension Credit, but may require different proof of eligibility. Cadw visitor centres
- Discount: £1 tickets available across different historical sites.
- What you need to know: £1 tickets are available for people receiving Pension Credit, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance. Proof of benefit eligibility required on arrival.

Northern Ireland
Hillsborough Castle and Gardens
- Discount: £1 tickets.
- What you need to know: £1 tickets are available to those who receive Universal Credit, Working Tax Credit, Pension Credit, Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support and Jobseeker’s Allowance. Up to six people per household can claim the offer. You’ll also need to bring proof of eligibility.
- How to book: Tickets must be booked online here, where you can collect your printed tickets from the ticket office on the day of your visit.
