Christmas prayers for the festive season

Heavenly Father, I thank you for this special Christmas Eve. As I prepare for tomorrow and all the joy Christmas day will bring, I quietly reflect on your goodness for bringing Jesus to be born to save me and love me. Thank you for all you have done for me and for the people I hold dear. In the midst of the celebrations tomorrow, I place you front and centre, knowing that nothing would be possible without your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Good morning, God, thank you that Christmas is finally here! Thank you for this season of celebrating Jesus coming into the world to save us and give us joy in you. Lord as I prepare for the excitement and busyness that this day brings, help me remember how good you have been to me and my family. For providing us all we need to commemorate this significant day, I say thank you, God, for your faithfulness and loving kindness. I also remember those who find today difficult, and ask that you shower them with your grace and mercy so that they will know your love and care towards them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Father God, I pray for the whole world and pray for your peace and joy to fill all hearts today. I pray that people will experience your unfailing love this Christmas. In all my plans today, I ask that you bless my family and friends, thank you for everything we will eat and receive today. Help us remain grateful to you for giving the ultimate gift of Jesus. Amen.

Heavenly Father, thank you for this amazing day. Thank you for showing me just how much you love and care for me. It was such a blessing to be surrounded by people who mean a lot to me. Jesus, for those who had a lonely or difficult Christmas, I ask that you be with them. Show them that through you, they are never alone, for you are the Wonderful Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Amen.

Lord, we give you all the praise for this significant season where we celebrate your birth. We thank you as we reflect on your joy, peace and grace. May you give us wisdom and the opportunity to give back this Christmas and be a blessing to each other. We commit all our plans before you and ask for peace as we put everything in place to make Christmas a joyous occasion. Be with us all, we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for this special food that is in front of us. As we eat together, we say thank you for providing all we needed for this delicious meal, we thank you for the hands that prepared the food and ask that you bless us all as we eat. Lord, we are gathered here because when we remember your son who was born for each and every one of us here around this table. Thank you for the gift of Jesus and the gift of each other. We are so grateful for all you do for us, so help us enjoy this moment of good food and good company, knowing you made it all possible. Amen.

Heavenly Father, in you, we put our trust and hope. Though our lives are not perfect, we look to you, the perfect one who sees and knows all things. We ask that you place a renewed hope in all who are seeking a way today. For your word says in Jeremiah 17:7, ​‘Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord and whose hope is the Lord’. Father, we know that nothing is impossible with you, so we put our faith in you, knowing you can change situations and move mountains, for you are the God of all hope. Amen

God, we lift up all the children to you. Thank you for the joy and excitement they are experiencing this Christmas. Jesus, we pray that you continue to bless and protect all children for you said let the little children come to you, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them. Lord, we ask that their joy will be full in this season! We pray they will enjoy celebrating you, receiving gifts and presents, and being with their family. Help us remind them of your great love towards them and why you deserve all the glory in this festive period. Amen.

Lord, as we place this Christmas tree in our home, we pray that you fill this home with peace and joy this season. God give us the wisdom to bless and serve each other over the Christmas period. Lord, may our words and actions be filled with kindness and warmth. As we come together near this tree, let it be a reminder of your grace towards us. Thank you for the gifts underneath it. Thank you for the bright colours and decoration around it. We remember that you Jesus are the reason why we are marking this season, and we say thank you for everything you do for us. Amen.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for your Church. Thank you for providing a place for all to come in and reflect on your loving kindness. O Lord, for everyone giving up their time to support and serve those who come into the church this Christmas, we ask that you pour out your blessings upon them. Thank you that your Church is a place of refuge and safety in this season for the lonely, the vulnerable and those who seek to get closer to you. Bless every church, and may all who enter feel cared for and appreciated. Amen.

Lord, we pray for peace this Christmas. As we think of Jesus, we remember that he is the prince of peace despite what is happening around us. During this busy season, guide us to take moments to be still and know that you will work all things together and that if we abide in you, we will also have an inner peace and confidence that you are in control of all our plans. Amen.

Heavenly Father, bless us this Christmas, keep all who have had a busy year and have been looking forward to this time of rest, of family and friends and of celebration. We ask that you bless every home and every family and every meal. Lord, we thank you that we are able to gather with the ones we hold so dear to enjoy this special occasion. We pray that all the beautiful memories that we will create this year will give you glory and fill us all with awe of how kind you have been to us over the years. Amen

God, we thank you for this time of being together to have fun and enjoy each other’s company. Thank you to all who made this Christmas party possible and helped arrange everything so that we can all have a wonderful time together. Be in our midst, God, as we celebrate the birth of your son as a community. We pray this time will be filled with joy and laughter and incredible memories. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Lord, we thank you for bringing Jesus into the earth to be the light of the world. As I light this candle, I am reminded that you are always with me and that your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. I thank you that you always lead me in your light because you love me. This Christmas, I ask for wisdom so that I can reflect your kindness and goodness to all around me. Amen

Heavenly Father, this winter as the days get darker quicker and the weather gets colder, let us remember that you are our rock and comforter. We can always call on you for the warmth of your love and embrace. We thank you that you protect us and keep us in the winter months, and that you are faithful. We ask that your Holy Spirit would lead us in your light during this season because no matter how dark things get in the world, the light of Christ overcomes it all. Amen.

God, we thank you for this new year. We thank you for being with us as we experienced the joys and challenges of last year. In all things we give you praise because through it all you were with us. You were our strength and strong tower. Lord, we know that this year you will continue to be by our side. We thank you in advance for the grace to begin this new year joyfully asking that you give us direction and wisdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

We believe that prayer isn’t just a spiritual practice, but it’s also a transformative one. It can impact every area of life, and guide us through life’s struggles and celebrations. 

This advent, there are many people who will be in vulnerable situations and facing isolation. Almost 9 in 10 of the people CAP helps say debt caused them to feel lonely. This Christmas, we want to encourage you to pray for CAP and lift up the voices of those who are living under the weight of debt and poverty, and call for the changes that are needed to free them.
