When we look at the world today, it can sometimes feel overwhelming. News of conflict, rising living costs, uncertainty about the future and worries close to home can leave many of us feeling anxious and helpless.
As Christians, prayer reminds us that we are never powerless. We can bring our fears, hopes and concerns to God. The Bible tells us:
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Matthew 5:9
Whether you’re praying for global peace, strength during financial pressure or for those in your local community, these prayers can help you fix your eyes back on Jesus and the hope he brings.
A prayer for global peace
Heavenly Father, we pray for peace across the world today. Bring comfort to those living through conflict, fear and anxiety. Protect families who have been displaced and strengthen those working to bring compassion and reconciliation. Remind us to be bold in our prayers and not stray away from prayers that feel too big, as you are the almighty God and nothing is too big for you. May your peace that surpasses all understanding guard our hearts and minds today. Amen.
A prayer for the world today
Lord, we bring before you our world today, with all of its beauty, brokenness and need. We pray for places experiencing different difficulties, communities rebuilding after crisis and families facing instability. Lord, you know each one of us personally and what we are going through, and we ask you to bring comfort and peace to those who need it today. Amen.
A prayer for those facing debt and poverty
Loving God, we pray for everyone struggling with debt and poverty in the UK and wider world. We know the worries that people are carrying, like rising costs, the fear of not having enough to live on and being in deficit budgets. Be close to those who feel overwhelmed or alone, easing any anxiety that they might be feeling right now. Help people find practical help they need and surround them with compassion. Please teach us to be generous to those around us who may be struggling today. Amen.
A prayer during uncertain times
Father, when life feels unstable and the future feels unclear, help us to trust in you. Calm our anxious minds and give strength to those carrying heavy burdens. Where we are fearful, bring your peace. Where we are exhausted, bring rest. Where there is brokenness, bring your hope. Help us to remember that we do not have to face uncertain times on our own, but that you are with us. Amen.
A prayer for those struggling with rising bills
Heavenly Father, we pray for everyone struggling with rising bills. For those lying awake at night worrying, and for families choosing between heating or eating, please be with them and give them a sense of your peace. Please put them on the path to getting support through family, friends, community organisations and local churches, and remind them that they are deeply loved by you. Teach us to care generously for one another and to notice those in our community who may be struggling silently. Amen.
A prayer for world leaders
Lord, we pray for all those in positions of leadership across the world, in governments, communities, workplaces and organisations. Give them wisdom to make fair and thoughtful decisions and give them compassion to care for those who are vulnerable. We pray especially for leaders facing complex challenges and difficult decisions. Surround them with your clarity, humility, peace and a desire to serve others well. Amen.
A prayer for our community
Loving God, we pray for our community today and for every family and neighbour who calls our village, town or city, home. Bring comfort to those who are carrying heavy burdens today and help them feel your peace. Help us to build a community filled with compassion, kindness and generosity. Teach us to notice each other and support one another. We pray for local churches, schools, charities and organisations serving people each day. We pray for our community to become a place where people feel welcomed, valued and deeply loved. Amen.
A prayer for local CAP workers
Lord, we thank you for every CAP worker, volunteer and supporter serving their local community with compassion and care. Strengthen those walking alongside people facing debt, poverty and difficult circumstances. Give them wisdom in conversations, patience during challenging moments and encouragement when work feels busy. Help people see your love shining through every local CAP worker. May they know your peace, guidance and strength today. Amen.
