When we look at the world today, it can sometimes feel overwhelming. News of conflict, rising living costs, uncertainty about the future and worries close to home can leave many of us feeling anxious and helpless.
As Christians, prayer reminds us that we are never powerless. We can bring our fears, hopes and concerns to God. The Bible tells us:
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Matthew 5:9
Whether you’re praying for global peace, strength during financial pressure or for those in your local community, these prayers can help you fix your eyes back on Jesus and the hope he brings.
A prayer for global peace
Heavenly Father, we pray for peace across the world today. Bring comfort to those living through conflict, fear and anxiety. Protect families who have been displaced and strengthen those working to bring compassion and reconciliation. Remind us to be bold in our prayers and not stray away from prayers that feel too big, as you are the almighty God and nothing is too big for you. May your peace that surpasses all understanding guard our hearts and minds today. Amen.
A prayer for the world today
Lord, we bring before you our world today, with all of its beauty, brokenness and need. We pray for places experiencing different difficulties, communities rebuilding after crisis and families facing instability. Lord, you know each one of us personally and what we are going through, and we ask you to bring comfort and peace to those who need it today. Amen.
A prayer for those facing debt and poverty
Loving God, we pray for everyone struggling with debt and poverty in the UK and wider world. We know the worries that people are carrying, like rising costs, the fear of not having enough to live on and being in deficit budgets. Be close to those who feel overwhelmed or alone, easing any anxiety that they might be feeling right now. Help people find practical help they need and surround them with compassion. Please teach us to be generous to those around us who may be struggling today. Amen.
