CAP responds to Ofgem's Call for Input on Affordability and debt in the domestic retail market

Electricity meter

We have responded to Ofgem’s latest call for input, calling for more support for low income households. We have all seen energy prices soar over the last two years, but recent polling by CAP shows that 42% of UK adults had limited their home electricity or gas use at least monthly due to the cost of living. CAP wants to see Ofgem implement a social tariff, as well as establish a Help to Repay scheme to ensure customers receive support with their bills and debts. These schemes should be easy to access and designed with people who have lived experience. As well as this, CAP would like to see see the energy industry start to formally fund the debt advice sector.
