CAP responds to Ofgem's consultation on resetting the energy debt landscape

Resetting the energy debt landscape: the case for a debt relief scheme

Christians Against Poverty (CAP) welcomes Ofgem’s proposal for a debt relief scheme to support households struggling with energy debt. With over 25 years of experience in debt advice, we emphasise the need for both debt write-offs and debt matching to provide targeted relief. Our response highlights the importance of fairness, consistency, and timely intervention while calling for better collaboration between energy suppliers and debt advice organisations. We urge the government to ensure sufficient funding to prevent further increases in consumer bills and advocate for long-term measures to support vulnerable households beyond this scheme.
