CAP has added our signature to Quaker Social Action’s open letter to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions calling on the Government to increase the capped portion of the Funeral Expenses Payment. In 2020–21, the average total award came to 44% of the average cost of a basic funeral” in the UK that year, meaning many families were struggling to afford a funeral of their loved ones. The letter is calling on the capped portion of the Funeral Expenses Payment to be increased to at least £1,725.
