CAP’s response to changes in the UK Government’s Energy Bills Support Scheme

The UK Government has announced some revisions to its Energy Bills Support Scheme following recent cost of living support changes. Changes include changing the support from a loan to a grant, and an increase in payment from £200 to £400. In response, CAP highlighted the need for initial instalments to be paid out as early as possible, and suggested a staggered delivery for pre-payment metre customers to help reduce the risk of vouchers going missing and to help people spread the support through the Winter period. CAP also explored how the payment may provide help to some individuals in debt, but may conversely lead to some individuals becoming ineligible for a previously appropriate debt solution.
