UK Government’s call for evidence on support needed during the cost of living crisis

CAP has responded to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) call for evidence on how the UK Government can support individuals in receipt of social security throughout the cost of living crisis. CAP highlighted the gaps in current Government support, and ways in which the Government can help to plug these gaps through immediate and ongoing measures. CAP’s suggested measures include: standard annual uprating of social security, including the Local Housing Allowance; six month payment holidays on Government debt; review on deduction rates to set repayment based on affordability; and the writing off of historic debts.
